2011 Community Matters Luncheon Highlights


Hear David Coleman hit the high points of his Community Matters talk in Hampton Roads on the Common Core State Standards for academics, which he helped create. So far 55 states have adopted the new standards for math and literacy.

Coleman, founder of Student Achievement Partners, was named by Time magazine in January as one of 11 top education innovators in the country. He spoke at a Norfolk luncheon about why 45 states are using the new Common Core State Standards for public school academics.

Virginia is not among the states adopting the standards endorsed by groups that include the national Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Military Child Education Coalition.

The luncheon was sponsored by the Hampton Roads Community Foundation and the Economics Club of Hampton Roads.
