Financial Information

Our Foundation offers you:

  • Significant tax advantages
  • Low administrative costs
  • Professional stewardship of assets
  • Charitable interests preserved forever

We make sure the charitable dollars entrusted to us by our donors to benefit our community are available today and forever. In 2005 we revised our target asset allocation and added private equity and real estate to our alternative asset class. Incremental investments over the next few years in those sectors will bring our portfolio to its target allocation. In addition to our board of directors, our investments are overseen by our investment committee and independent investment advisor, Hammond Associates.

Investment Update
Hammond Associates, our investment consultant, has strict oversight for hedge fund manager selection criteria, which includes transparency of investment strategy, sufficient risk monitoring transparency, and reasonableness of reported returns. Our Foundation's hedge fund portfolio has weathered the capital markets storm well, declining only 12.1% for 2008. This compares favorably to the HFRI Fund of Funds Index (-20%) and the S&P 500 (-37.8).  For the past five years our Foundation's hedge funds have been one of its top performing asset categories.  The hedge fund program has generated an annualized return of 5.9% for the Foundation, approximating the performance of traditional fixed income securities over a period in which the S&P 500 declined 2.2% per annum.
