to link computer and telephone technology between the Norfolk
and Portsmouth offices. The two offices recently merged into
one Bed Cross chapter.

$11,315 to improve computer and telephone systems at the
Chesapeake headquarters of the organization that matches
adult volunteers with area youths needing mentors.

nonprofits for board development, program evaluation or
strategic planning. Recipients are Catholic Charities of
Hampton Roads, Community Resource Network, Dispute Settlement
Center, Elizabeth River Project, Places and Programs for
Children, REACH Foundation, Seton House. Tidewater Pastoral
Counseling Service. USD of Hampton Roods. Virginia Zoological
Society and Youth Entertainment Studios.

perform a feasibility study on a shared services bureau for
area arts organizations.

to improve the roof and chimneys at Kerr Place, a 19-century

The Endependence Center, $190,000 to renovate a new

Piano grants, $214,173 in piano grants from the E.K.
Sloane Fund to eight organizations to purchase or repair
pianos used for public performances. Recipients include the
Academy of Music, Chesapeake Bay Academy, Hermitage
Foundation Museum, Larchmont United Methodist Church, Norfolk
State University Foundation, Smithfield Little Theatre,
Tidewater Community College Educational Foundation and
Virginia Stage Company.

Seton House, $39.039 for furniture and equipment for
its girls' and boys' shelters in Virginia Beach.

St. Mary's Home for the Disabled, $400.000 to help
build a new $16 million home in Norfolk to care for 88
children with severe disabilities.

A $9,180 Norfolk Foundation grant is providing area
non-profit groups with access to two national foundation
research databases.
Virginia Beach Public Library spearheaded the effort
to make Grant Select and The Foundation Center Directory
available to the public in south-eastern Virginia. Grant
Select is available from a home or office computer through
the Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk or Portsmouth public
library web-sites. The Foundation Center Directory is
available by visiting a library branch.
