Types of Funds / Scholarship
A scholarship fund lets you help students achieve their dreams while honoring a loved one (e.g. the Jane M. Doe Scholarship Fund). Funds can be started by individuals, families, organizations or companies. Donors may define the guidelines for candidate selection or designate a specific field or study or college to be attended. We have more than 50 funds providing scholarships to more than 330 students a year.

Frank Fang Memorial Scholarship
Dr. Chin Seng “Frank” Fang of Newport News was an engineer who loved to teach. The former department chair at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science in Gloucester County liked having a positive impact on people. After Fang’s death in 2005 his wife and sons decided a scholarship was the perfect tribute. Their own gifts and those from family and friends created a fund at the Foundation to help Chinese or Chinese-American students from Hampton Roads or Gloucester County attend college. Jimmy Fang says the scholarship fund “is exactly what we wanted and is an excellent way to remember my dad.”
