The Eastern Shore Community Foundation of Virginia, an affiliate of The Norfolk Foundation, was established in 2005 to provide individuals and organizations with opportunities to improve the quality of life on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The foundation exists to enrich the lives of people living in Accomack and Northampton counties.

The mission of the Eastern Shore of Virginia Community Foundation is to create and provide philanthropic resources to meet a broad range of needs for the benefit of the Eastern Shore of Virginia by:

  • Enabling donors to meet their charitable goals through prudently administered permanently endowed funds

  • Offering a comprehensive array of services to encourage, advance and educate donors concerning effective philanthropy

  • Making critical grants to meet current and emerging community needs and opportunities.

Through its partnership with The Norfolk Foundation, the Eastern Shore of Virginia Community Foundation offers a convenient way for donors to make charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations serving the Eastern Shore. As an affiliate, the new community foundation is working to raise $4 million in new funds by January 2009 in order to receive $2 million from a Norfolk Foundation fund dedicated to the Eastern Shore.

In addition, the Eastern Shore foundation can draw on The Norfolk Foundation’s more than 55-years of experience in grantmaking and donor development. The Foundation provides a variety of services to the Eastern Shore foundation to help foster philanthropic resources and connect those resources with nonprofit organizations in the community.

Anyone interested in providing for the present and future needs of the residents of the Eastern Shore can become a donor. Two options are establishing a named fund or making a contribution to the foundation's operating fund.
