Business Consortium for Arts Support



OVERVIEW
The Business Consortium for Arts Support helps arts and cultural groups meet the costs of running their organizations by providing annual grant funding. Founded in 1987, the nonprofit Consortium has awarded more than $14.9 million in grants to organizations that regularly perform or exhibit in the South Hampton Roads area of Virginia. The Consortium solicits funds and membership from area corporations and foundations and currently disperses $700,000 in annual operating support to 32 arts and cultural organizations.


POSITION DESCRIPTION
The executive director will be responsible for managing the only united arts fund in Hampton Roads. The position requires a person knowledgeable about the region and its arts and cultural community. The successful candidate will have the vision and commitment to make the organization grow while also maintaining current member relationships. Proven marketing and development experience are paramount.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • College degree

  • Minimum of three years experience with an arts organization.

  • Experience in fundraising.

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • An ability to work with volunteers.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint.

  • Experience working with a relational database.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects on firm deadlines.

  • Detail-oriented, organized and a self-starter.

  • A demonstrated interest in the nonprofit sector and a desire to work in a satisfying job.

  • Creativity, energy and a sense of humor.

DUTIES

  • Close collaboration with board of directors to fulfill the mission of the BCAS

  • Managing the budget and administering all policies.

  • Conducting research, cultivating and maintaining membership

  • Marketing the Consortium and interacting with community arts and business organizations

  • Oversight of grant application process, including review, allocations and payments

  • Attendance at performances, exhibitions, receptions and related events

  • Handling all office work, including payroll, payment of vendor bills, reconciliation of bank accounts, file management, completion of surveys, oversight of payment/receipt schedule, commitment spreadsheet, filing of annual taxes, preparation of correspondence and organizing meetings.

SPECIFICS
Salary: Compensation will correspond to experience.
Benefits: Health benefits and paid parking.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
