In 2008 The Business Consortium for Arts Support awarded nearly $700,000 to 32 arts and cultural groups that regularly perform or exhibit in south Hampton Roads. Since 1988 the Consortium has contributed more than $14.9 million to area arts and cultural organizations.

For 2008 the Consortium awarded 80 percent of its funds to the region’s six largest arts organizations: The Virginia Opera $145,166; The Chrysler Museum, $129,036; the Virginia Symphony, $128,087; the Virginia Stage Company, $91,084; the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, $39,849; and Virginia Arts Festival, $25,301. Among the 26 other recipients, grants ranged from $40,060 to Young Audiences of Virginia to $500 given to Tidewater Arts Outreach.
