But their generosity amplified itself after their deaths through The Alison J. and Ella W. Parsons Foundation that was the Norfolk couple’s gift to their community. On October 1, 2005 the foundation’s board ensured the Parsons’ legacy would continue forever by transferring about $7 million in assets to a donor advised fund of The Norfolk Foundation.

From 1983 to 2005 The Parsons Foundation provided more than $6.4 million in grants to 142 nonprofit organizations in Hampton Roads. “The impact of this foundation on our region is tremendous. It has given many nonprofits the opportunity to serve their participants and to build buildings,’ says Keith Curtis of Virginia Beach, president of The Curtis Group. The new Allison J. and Ella W. Parsons Donor Advised Fund will continue the Parsons’ legacy by providing at least $315,000 a year in grant funding to nonprofits in southeastern Virginia.
