Field of Interest Funds
A field of interest fund lets you support broad areas, such as education, the arts, or the environment. You can start a permanent fund with a $25,000 gift. From your field of interest fund we will award grants to organizations working in the field of interest you specify. Grant recipients are selected through a competitive grant process.

Featured Donor: William A. and Jane M. Charters Fund
In 2008 William and Jane Charters helped provided $1 million in grants to nonprofits that feed, clothe, shelter and offer medical care for Hampton Roads residents. Although William died in 1982, and Jane died in 2004, the field of interest fund created after Jane’s death is helping area nonprofits to do their best to assist struggling people. Jane Charters’ idea of creating a permanent fund for “basic human needs” is a timely one that is tribute to a couple who always had the best interests of their community at heart.
