Donor Highlight

Charles and Carolyn Plimpton of Virginia Beach spent 26 years building their Hertz car rental franchise into the second largest one in the country. In 2000 they sold their Norfolk business to pursue their own interests, including helping nonprofit organizations in southeastern Virginia. The Plimptons created a donor advised fund with The Norfolk Foundation in 2001. One reason for choosing the Foundation was its staff members "who are dedicated to making a positive difference in the quality of life," Charles Plimpton says. He and his wife particularly enjoy the Foundation's Extra Wish program, which enables them to use their fund each year to meet the specific needs of area nonprofits.
