Building Excellence Development Capacity Building Grants

The Building Excellence Development Capacity Building Grants program helps increase nonprofit organizations’ development and fundraising capabilities. Each year we select four nonprofits from South Hampton Roads to receive Building Excellence grants. These grants provide technical assistance services from The Curtis Group designed to help organizations build development capacity in key areas such as:

  • Mission
  • Strategic planning
  • Case statement
  • Communications and marketing
  • Volunteer recruitment
  • Fundraising
  • Recordkeeping and database management
  • Board involvement in fundraising
  • Executive director’s involvement in fundraising

Receiving a Building Excellence grant does not affect your organization’s ability to apply for grant funding through other Foundation grant programs.

Building Excellence applicants should be 501(c) 3 nonprofit organizations serving the residents of South Hampton Roads in one of the Foundation’s grant or initiative priority areas.
